DON'T URGE ME TO LEAVE YOU

              

   

Don’t urge me to leave you, I will not go

For love is all that I can ever show,

It’s not just the things I say or I do,

Not even the good or bad, I see in you,

It depends not on outside stimuli,

Or what is given me as truth, or lie; 

It is the life that within me doth live,

Jesus, this Life Himself to me did give.

Don’t urge me to leave you, I’m not untrue,

Not even in things small, many or few,

Love does not wait to be called or coerced,

To give itself to the best or the worst,

Love needs not the help of any power,

On its own, it’s complete, its own master;

It is the way that my feet do go,

Jesus, the Way Himself in me doth show.

Don’t urge me to leave you, I can’t obey,

Nor be changed, whatever you do or say, 

Love has no qualms and no dealings with fear,

To lead, or to follow no matter where,

When love gives itself to some chosen one, 

The truth of love will most fully be done;

It is the Truth that Christ in me will seek,

Jesus, the Truth Himself in me does speak.
