I once saw a
butterfly against a window pane,
And O! how it
was struggling its freedom to gain,
For it was
trapped inside a tightly closed up room,
And every single
effort brought nothing more than doom.
I sat and
watched it struggle, struggling to be free,
When a
frightening sadness rose up inside of me,
The picture of
this creature vividly brought to mind,
The way sin sets
traps for us to hold us in its bind,
And how each day
we struggle trying to do what’s right,
To live the
Christian life in our own strength and might,
‘Twas then I
knew for certain, God surely did not give,
His only Son
that you and I a struggling life might live,
That butterfly
needed someone to open up the window,
And gently lead
it outward in the way it should go,
I need the Holy
Spirit to free me from sin’s holds,
And daily lead and guide me as The Way, He unfolds.
Amen!
