In Self or in Spirit

Jesus, by Your precious blood You rescued me,

You paid sin’s full price and You broke me free,

My life was directly heading straight for hell,

My heart, mind and soul to sin I did sell,

Self was my master, my advisor, my friend,

I lived fully on self, on God I did not depend.

Jesus saw the damage of a life self-driven.

A life that would never know the Father’s heaven;

In self, I lived to sin, loyal and true,

In Spirit, Lord Jesus, I will live with You.

Jesus, living in You we’ll all get to heaven,

The abundant life You’ve promised, You have given,

All who die to self and know Your abiding grace,

Will rejoice in heaven to see our Saviour’s face,

Our earthly life writes what our after life will be,

Whether we are hell bound, or from sin’s curse set free,

Our Loving Heavenly Father delights not in souls lost,

That’s why He gave His Only Son at tremendous cost;

In self, I lived foolishly, in my wants and way,

In Spirit, I need Jesus, need Him every day.

Jesus, Your faithfulness, unmatched, unparalleled,

Your loving kindness captures me, I am compelled,

By Your honesty to Your Word, forever true,

My life’s Your open book to write all fresh and new.

Testimony of a sinner who is Blood bought,

Washed, cleansed and made whole, a life that Jesus has sought,

Your life and mine are precious to our Master,

He delights not in our self-paths to disaster;

In self, life in hell is our guarantee for sure,

In Spirit, in Jesus, life in heaven’s secure.

Jesus You are the vine and we the branches are,

Whoever remains in You, cannot live afar,

Through Your faithful working, Your tending, Your caring,

Your Presence produces abundant fruit-bearing,

Fruit of the Spirit, from God the Supreme Farmer,

Who wants us all producing fruit of His measure,

Dependent on Jesus and not on self-wisdom,

By which we gain full entrance into His Kingdom;

In self, there’s no hope of ought but hell’s torment,

In Spirit, there’s all hope of heaven’s attainment.

Amen!
