Joseph’s a son of Abraham, the
receiver
Of God’s sworn promises, the covenant
Giver,
He’s a direct descendent of Abraham’s
line,
One destined to promise, by the
Lord’s own design.
But the picture of Joseph’s life in
the present,
Shows another image, one totally
different,
From a child of God under covenant
blessing,
His life seems so traumatised and so
depressing.
This son is now a slave, sold to an
Egyptian,
Surely this defies human imagination;
If freedom is what the covenant
promises,
Why bondage? the unmistakable images.
Now see, while this son of promise is
but a slave,
God to Joseph open blessings and
favour gave,
In every work of his hand, God made
him excel,
It was no hidden secret, all around
could tell,
That God was with Joseph in his place
of bondage,
A God, still with His children in
this present age.
Joseph is a slave but see how he’s
respected,
A man of integrity, a worker trusted,
From the meanest slave, he’s now made
a caretaker
Of his master’s business, his master,
Potipher.
Yet with all his privileges, all his
success,
Joseph is free to turn from a wily
temptress,
Whose conniving and wickedness, all
truth betrays,
While God’s gracious Hand on Joseph
stubbornly stays.
Now in greater bondage within a
prison place,
Is it still not easy the Lord’s
favour to trace?
Right there in his prison, in deeper
confinement,
God’s grace is witnessed with every
passing moment.
Even in this prison Joseph’s character
shines through,
In his undertakings, all that he was
asked to do.
This God of Joseph’s to His word
remained faithful,
Never on the Lord’s behalf, ever be
doubtful,
If you are a child of the promise,
then please know,
Misfortune won’t o’er take you, wherever you go.
Whatever the bondage that may you
imprison,
God is there too, revealing in you
His person,
That all around will see your freedom
in bondage,
Showing God is still present, even in
this age.
Amen!
