Love

You love us Father, beyond all measure,

And bestowed on us love’s richest treasure,

Your only Son, in whom You are well pleased,

You sent down to earth to save lives, diseased,  

Jesus, Your precious, true and only Son,

Came down from heaven to save every one,

For all by sin knew pure separation,

Wickedness, evil, abomination,

Children of the Father, all dead and lost,

Until Love came and saved us at high cost,

Love suffered beyond measure, then Love died,

Breaking sin’s bonds and exposing it wide,

Love beyond measure, who can such love earn?

Holy Spirit, help us God’s love not to spurn.

 

You love us Father, beyond all compare,

No earthly parent, no matter how dear,

Loves, as You love, how You bear and forbear,

Even when Your words, we don’t heed and hear,

Love, forgiving love, keeps seeking us still,

Life for the sinner is our Father’s will,  

Life in Jesus, the sinner’s guarantee,

Love, sacrificed upon an accursed tree,

Knowing dishonour, derision and scorn,

When our sins, guilt and shame by Love was borne,

Who can fathom Love so unthinkable?

Love unrequited! Love ineffable!

Who can such heavenly love grasp and hold?

Prostrate we must fall, when’re we behold,

Love from above, sent down to us below,

Holy Spirit, teach us God’s love to know.
