Do Not Swear on Oath

DO NOT SWEAR ON OATH – Are you a person who likes to swear on oath, using the Name of God? This is what I mean. It is not uncommon to hear people saying things like these. God is my witness that I did not steal it, or, I swear by God that I am not the guilty one. Some even get bold to say things like this. God strike me down if I don’t do as I have said. Jesus warns about such damning talk. He describes any such talk as coming from the evil one. Keep your talk simple.

 

Holy Spirit, teach me the utter seriousness of swearing by anything, whether in heaven or on earth. Amen!
