Refresh Me Lord

Inspired from Luke 11: 9 and Matthew 15: 3b.

Refresh me Lord, this early morn,

Let all the old from me be torn,

That with new feet, heart, soul and mind,

All baggage will be left behind,

In the freshness of this new day,

Lord Jesus teach me how to pray.

Show me the error of my way,

In things I do and what I say,

For ere the day comes to its light,

And like the birds I take my flight,

Refresh me with Your words all true,

That I’ll hold fast no other view.

Help me hold firm all You command,

And not what traditions demand,

At Your feet, before the sunrise,

Free me from all that block my eyes,

All that bind in tradition’s chains,

So Your Word in me will yield gains.

You command believers to pray,

Ask, seek and knock is what You say,

In unchallenged authority,

You spoke with truth and verity,

Receive, find, surely will happen,

Knock, prayer’s door to you will open.

New words and ways take positions,

They’re becoming new traditions,

My words on prayer become less true,

As you look to another view,

Prayer becomes not what I command,

Only what traditions demand.

Lord, I hear, as hearing You give,

Please have mercy and me forgive,

Ere I would face a brand new day,

Teach me my Master, how to pray,

Bathe me in Your commands in prayer,

Refresh me, ere I rise from here.

Amen!
