Two
runners ran side by side in a race,
A
race that could only have one first place,
Running
was tight, each a strong contender,
None
his place in the race would surrender;
The
course grew demanding, more hazardous,
Still
the two persevered, both courageous.
As
each pressed on, mind and will resolute,
To
stay the course, that did trust constitute;
And
as they ran, abreast of each other,
Each
became the other’s encourager,
Mindful
that each was running the same race,
They
knew the same obstacles they would face.
It
was now time to face the biggest foe,
As
on, these runners in this race did go;
The
enemy was a huge obstacle,
And
few made it over its pinnacle.
These
two runners before this blocker stood,
This
climb to surmount, neither of them could.
Although
this was a race for one winner,
'Twas
capable of more than one loser.
As
these competitors faced the giant,
They
could no more on self be reliant;
Together
they looked in each other’s eyes,
Expedience
made them honest and wise,
To
get over this climb, they must be one,
If
this foe be conquered, this hurdle won;
Then
holding hands in embryonic trust,
They
said, to surmount this mountain, we must.
A
record was broken as hand in hand,
Two
runners emerged, not as they had planned;
There
was no winner, and there weren’t losers,
For
these now accepting, trusting runners,
A
race where trust brought home the one trophy,
A
life-race, where trust brings the victory.
Amen!
