DO AS I SAY – One of the most deceitful and totally pretentious things we can do – consciously and unconsciously – is to give life to this saying. ‘Do as I say, not as I do’. However you interpret this, know that our Lord never sanctions such hypocrisy. Paul had occasion to address this evil, and we ought to take heed. Am I speaking God’s word with clarity and truth? Then turn around and live the opposite. If, for example, I speak of abhorring idols, do I still keep idols and the ways of idols? God forbid! When such is my behaviour, I cause others to dishonour God.
Father in heaven, keep me ever mindful of my ways that I may not speak one thing and live another. No deceitful or pretentious behaviour will be accepted by You. Amen!
