MY DEBT OF LOVE

  

I know I owe you love my friend,

For God has given love to me,

Not on myself alone to spend,

For in this way I’ll never be,

Ready and pleasing in His sight,

The Giver of His perfect gift,

Given to share; it is your right,

Love that will your whole life uplift.    

I know the debt of love I owe,

A debt that I must daily pay,  

For it is God who tells me so;

Love I must offer day by day,  

For it’s in giving love to you,

Not just my daily debt is paid,

But in the things I say and do,

Fulfillment of the law is made.

I know that love’s my only debt,

The debt that I will always owe,

As God has never failed me yet,

His perfect love in me to grow;

In the joy of perfect giving,

The love I have, I give to you,  

For in giving, I am loving,

Not just you, but the Lord God too.
