A DONKEY AND HER COLT

Mother donkey, so securely tied,
With your colt right there, close at your side,
A beast, many scoff at and deride,
Today I’ll make you Love’s joy and pride.

Mother donkey, staked in your slave place,
Where you and your colt share the same face,
The lowest of those of your own race,
Today I’ll bestow on you Love’s grace.

Mother donkey, with menial name,
Where your young colt is called by the same,
A name that carries no clout or fame,
Today I’ll lift you high in Love’s claim.

Mother donkey, in your lowly state,
With you, your colt shares the same estate,
A life that bears out the servant’s gait,
Today I’ll make you to be Love’s gate.

Mother donkey, today is your day,
When you and colt will be taken away,
Untied to serve through no earthly sway,
Today I’ll use you in Love’s chosen way.

        Amen!
